The Happold Medal Lecture

The Happold Medal Lecture is a biennial event organised by CIC and the Happold Trust, in memory of the first Chairman of CIC, Professor Sir Edmund (Ted) Happold. It is free for all construction professionals to attend but young professionals are particularly welcome.

Eighth Happold Medal Lecture by Keith Clarke CBE
Wednesday, 14 November 6:00pm-9:00pm
The Institution of Structural Engineers
11 Upper Belgrave Street
London SW1X 8BH

This year, Keith Clarke CBE, former chairman of the Construction Industry Council (2008-2010), will become the eighth recipient of this prestigious award, after delivering the lecture entitled "Who holds the pencil?"

As a former CEO of the global engineering and design consultancy, WS Atkins, as well as Government Advisor to Qatar, Board Member of Future Forum, Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Brunel Lecturer for the Institution of Civil Engineers, Keith has been in the forefront of promoting carbon neutral infrastructure.

Keith Clarke became Atkins' director of sustainability and chairman of its Middle East business after eight years as chief executive. During his leadership he steered the Group back to being a high performing business, successfully navigated a world recession and charted a course for growth. He was also instrumental in shaping Atkins to respond to opportunities created by the low carbon economy. He is a chartered architect with more than 40 years' experience in construction and engineering, an advisory board member of the Built Environment Innovation Centre at Imperial College, London, a non-executive director of the British Standards Institute, patron of the Environmental Industries Commission and has Honorary Fellowships from the Institution of Structural Engineers and Cardiff University. Keith was awarded a CBE in the Queen's New Year's Honours list 2011.
